ABOUT THE ARTIST

Krystal is a Brisbane-based contemporary artist who specializes in abstract paintings. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Art, Fine Arts (Excellence) degree and a post-graduate Bachelor of Secondary Education qualification, which enabled her to pursue a career as a visual art teacher.

Krystal's early career saw her selected to showcase her work in various emerging artists' exhibitions and gallery spaces throughout Brisbane, which helped to kick-start her contemporary sculpture and textile practice. Despite her passion for sculpture and textiles, traditional foundations of drawing, mixed media and painting have remained at the root of her practice.

In recent years, Krystal has reignited her love for painting and drawing, returning to mixed media, painting, and colour exploration reminiscent of her early years at Art College. The raw, vulnerable, and imperfect forms from artists like Tracy Emin, Egon Schiele, John Olsen, Brett Whiteley, and role of Expressionism continue to influence her work. Her recent abstract work seeks to navigate the relationships between colour, texture, and surface, all while mapping memories and her surrounding landscapes.

Krystal's ultimate goal is to evolve these aesthetic curiosities and cultivate a visually enticing experience for her audience, even as she juggles a family, commissions, and a full-time art teaching career.

When Krystal isn’t creating art, you can find her with her husband, three kids, and their beloved groodle, Peaches, right here in Brisbane. She’s always looking to evolve her aesthetic and practice, and she can't wait to take you along on her next creative journey.
